Vodo Mixtape 1
It’s a world chocker blocked with creatives out there, and unfortunately, out put definitely streams way ahead of any one individuals ability to keep up with it. The storm of digital dirge and dross out there can be hard to sail through if searching for quality. So, sites like Vodo.net are fairly useful as some sort of quality control feature that filters out content that might interest you, providing paths to explore if it does. With a nice play on the role of mix tapes for sharing content in the pre P2p era they’ve released a collection of some of their favourites from the past few months.
Vodo’s twist is that they see themselves as providing a mechanism where the artist or producer can recoup some of the costs of making their work available through donations and the like. It’s monetisation scheme that’s worked wonders for films like Nasty Old People. Never mind the exposure given to film makers through the networks of viewers. The first mix tape contains a brutal portrait of an unofficial town crier in Boston. A piece of end of the world sci-fi rammed together in 48 hours for the International Film Shoot Out. A drama where trust between Moscow newly weds faces its first test. A birth day party where no body turns up. And a rather gore-filled animation.
